You know the importance of laughter. Yet you do not laugh. You think that your serious and dignified look and nervous manners are signs of manhood. You also believe that a laughing woman is light hearted or idiotic. Yet you read in books that laughter has got several advantages. Doctors emphasize the importance of laughter. They prescribe it as a cure for a number of diseases. These days people appear as though they are about to receive some tragic news. No sense of humour, no willingness to share a joke and no witty conversation. If at all you venture to tell a joke, people take it as some thing serious and it will be another problem to get out of the embarrassment of a misunderstood joke. Therefore hardly any one tells a joke. Consequently, sources of humour is drying up and we have to import jokes from other societies.

If, by chance, any humorous theme appears in the popular serial called Tash Ma Tash on the Saudi TV there will be a flurry of letters next day protesting the humour in it. On the other hand, if that episode is a tragedy, viewers would receive it as quite appropriate. In fact, we live out the proverb - 'Joke is happiness in the beginning and sorrow at the end.' It is quite unfortunate that, we forget other proverbs such as 'Laugh, the whole world will laugh with you' and 'The world is sweetness if only you recognize it.'

He might have been thinking about us when Bernard Shaw said that life did not lose its mirth nor sense of humour when any body died. The converse is also true. Life doesn't lose any of its seriousness when any body laughs. It is wrong to believe that by laughing you lose your respectability and dignity. The laughter will only add to the liveliness. Can you believe that even our children are not laughing sufficiently? With whom shall they laugh? With the nervous teacher, depressed mother or bossing father? Come on, let's laugh heartily. It is a very simple exercise. Though, because of our lack of practice, now, it requires a little effort. You just try to lit up your face with a smile even if it is artificial. Keep on doing it until it becomes a part of your facial features.

Laugh! It is the cheapest cure when every thing else is costly.
